The first personal computer was not built in a multi-billion dollar research centre of a Fortune 500 company, but in a garage in California. The world's first fusion reactor will not run in a high-tech corporate laboratory, but in an American backyard. And the first interstellar vessel …

Book 2 Epsilon Eridani
Book 3 Into the Galaxy
A group of young postgraduates builds a DIY space ship in a hidden location, using a brand new, superior technology. Their only voiced goal is to reach another star – with their own faster-than-light drive system. To lift off they need something they can't create themselves - but they know who can.
So one day the director of CERN receives an unusual offer two hyper technologies - artificial gravitation and antimatter production - in exchange for a small favour. Quickly it is clear these technologies will change the face of world and they are worth trillions.
As overpopulation has become the most dangerous threat for humanity, even one habitable planet within reach would ease the population pressure and alter the destiny of a desperate growing mankind. The interstellar drive is the key - whoever controls it, controls the immediate future. Then there are also economical benefits new worlds mean new resouces … and fortunes are to be made.
CERN is closely watched by all bigger intelligence services and the arrival of the Group's precious data is leaked. Although the CERN had to promise to place the data into the public domain, a merciless hunt starts immediately Earth's superpowers want to get hold of the new technologies - and the Group members, no matter the price. And there are other interested parties ...
A race starts that will determine the fate of our world.
But discovering a new inhabitable world is only the beginning - the group's true intentions lie elsewhere.

Only minor issues I have with book are: some minor calculation errors (like how strong burst of 10 Kg antimatter will be - it's NOT 100 Mt), ICBM which moonlights as interceptor missile (in deepspace).Major issue is it looks right now that this book is not about future. it's about alternate reality (read chapter 113, after that check CERN's site to knew how much antimatter they can produce right now). I would like to live in such world even if it will take a little longer.

Twisted Spaces 1 / Destination Mars EN Abel Rosi MilliganTaweel 9781520515458 Books Reviews
Good book. I liked it enough that I went and bought vol. 2.
Excellent and fresh adventure that is difficult to put down. Lost a lot of sleep reading this book and want the next one now.
Fast paced, bucking the establishment. Good character development over time. Theme has been used before, but could develop in the next book. A good read
Love how the story begins. Some shortcuts are taken in the story line, but I can fill in the blanks. One of those books where you go ahead and buy the sequel because you know you are going to want to read it.
A constant, well written story with excellent characters and story lines. The use of physical science to add to the development of the stories tremendous imagination and keeps the reader constantly involved. I will be downloading the second book in the series as soon as possible.
Story Line 5 Stars
Translation Editing 4 Stars
The story is translated from the German. Twisted Spaces (Book 1) must have had a different editor/proofreader as there were fewer poor translations (usually as far as a poor choice of words used to convey the story) and proofing errors (such as repeated words). Books 2 and 3 were much worse which makes me think the translator changed. Also in book 2 & 3, I felt there was much more of a misogynistic undercurrent. Considering the women in the story often had important positions in the story and in advancing the storyline, they were often spoken of as if they were the possessions of "their man/men". They were the only ones described in close physical detail, usually in terms of T & A. For holding important ship positions because of their abilities, they were often portrayed sitting on "their men's" laps in inappropriate locations (like company meetings), And while everyone else wore company uniforms, they'd be in short miniskirts and tops that reveal their breasts. In contrast, the only real physical description of any of the men was Claus, who was "about 35, with blond hair and a scar down the middle of his chest." (only mentioned once in 3 books). I bring this up because it was so very obvious; could be a cultural thing in Germany to write a book this way (though Americans often do the same so it's probably a sci-fi nerd writer thing or something!).
That said, TWISTED SPACES and the other 2 books of the series held my attention. In fact, I'm still catching up on sleep as I'd only sleep about 3 hours so I could get up and read more! I hope there will be more books in the series that will answer more questions raised by the book (such as how exactly the main characters came up with the advanced anti-gravity and wormhole technology in a short 5-year period. There are hints in the 3rd book that were not settled, maybe laying the ground for more books in the future (hint, hint). Otherwise book three ends in such as way that it could either end the series or there could be more. Again, hoping for the latter in the future!
The overall concept of a private enterprise beating NASA and similar foreign entities into space is intriguing but you have to suspend your concept of reality--it is science fiction after all. Great individual character story lines. I am looking forward to the next installment to see what the trip to Mars brings...and then beyond.
Only minor issues I have with book are some minor calculation errors (like how strong burst of 10 Kg antimatter will be - it's NOT 100 Mt), ICBM which moonlights as interceptor missile (in deepspace).
Major issue is it looks right now that this book is not about future. it's about alternate reality (read chapter 113, after that check CERN's site to knew how much antimatter they can produce right now). I would like to live in such world even if it will take a little longer.
