This review isn't about the literary works themselves, but rather some technical aspects of this edition.

The good
Price (my weighting = .70): Five stars
It's hard to beat having all of these novels and stories at your fingertips for less than two dollars.

Navigation / Table of Contents (weighting = .10): Five stars
The front of book table of contents is great, and each work (where appropriate) has chapter navigation as well. In addition, you can use the 5-way to skip from book to book.

The bad
Typos (weighting = .20): One star
I can't speak for every book in this collection, as I've only completed The Double so far, but the plethora of typos I came across is astounding. I'm used to seeing typos in books, and they do seem more prevalent in Kindle editions, but the frequency at which I encountered blatant errors while reading The Double really surprised me. Rare was the page without an error of some kind, and several pages were riddled with them. At first it drove me nuts, but I slowly grew to accept them as the price for getting all of these books for next to nothing. If you're the type of person whose skin crawls at seeing such mistakes, you probably want to stay away from this particular collection.

Bottom line: If I'd paid $20 or more for this, I would be incredibly disappointed due to the poor copy editing. But at less than two dollars, it's a lot easier to take such things in stride and appreciate having most of Dostoyevsky's oeuvre in such a convenient form.

Works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky edition by Fyodor Dostoyevsky Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

An amazing look at the state and individuals of russia before the revolution. To me the total effect was to highlight that politicians should not ignore the social consquences of there actions and how deep those actions descend into society.
Reading Dostoyevsky is like going through the human soul and seeing every bit of it in material form. His skillfulness in sculpting extremely different characters, building stories which may seem ordinary, but their journey is vital not only to those involved, but to the reader him/herself. This is how one falls in love with reading and knows true literature.
When I googled a sample sentence, I was taken to another online text of "The Brothers Karamazov" which identified it as translated by Constance Garnett. She was, of course, the great translator of all the Russian classics into English in the early part of the 20th century. So, despite the fact that there may be "better" translations available today, it was the Constance Garnett translations that influenced generations of writers. I believe she was married to Edward Garnett, who published D.H. Lawrence and Joseph Conrad, but somehow turned down James Joyce's "A Portrait of the Artist."
Lust. Greed. Murder. Spirituality. That's the mix of character traits Dostoyevski explores in profoundly realistic depth in The Brothers Karamazov. I've read it a dozen times because each time my understanding of the tale changes. There are three brothers from the loathsome elder Karamazov's two marriages -Dmitri the sensualist, Ivan the intellectual, and one of the most original characters in fiction-Alyosha, the young mystic who judges no-one & is universally beloved. When their father is murdered, suspicion falls on Dmitri. Is he guilty? Damning evidence piles up in court and he appears helpless to refute it. The quality of suspense is played out in front of the reader's eyes masterfully. To call this one of the world's Masterpiece's is accurate and evident to me.

Then there's Crime and Punishment. A poor student murders his miserly landlady. The effects of this action on his psyche is explored at excruciating depth. We imagine how this would feel to a relatively sensitive young man. Dostoyevski is nothing if not a master of character. Again, one of the world's Classics. As Ezra Pound defined Literature "Literature is news that STAYS news" (I capitalized for emphasis).

The Possessed aka Demons-Dostoyevski's exploration of the effects of atheism, which for him was equivalent to being completely amoral. This is a novel replete with suspense, greed and most of what we would consider the absence of a moral compass. The characters are selfish, self-centered, dishonest. This is not my favorite novel of Dostoyevski's, but it's greater than 95% or more than what is published to such overhyped acclaim today.

The Gambler is a profoundly accurate depiction of a compulsive gambler. The author writes from direct experience. As we know now vitually all compuslive gamblers are likewise alcoholics and the effect on the lives of friends and family is equally devestating. This too is deservedly considered a Classic.

I could go on & on, but you've got the gist of the matter-the author makes their best effort, the reader offers their time and attention. In these novels the exchange is extraordinarily rewarding.
As for these free to nearly free books, I'm currently rating them in the area of navigation. This particular collection is easy to navigate, with a Table of Contents of all the books and stories and, also, chapters within the books. You can click on any of these to get around, or you can use the 's general controls last page read, bookmarks and notes.

All that said, I don't know who translated this edition. There is no preface that I can find, and nothing else to identify it. Here's a comparison from an edition I own in paperback translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky

"At the same time he remained one of the most muddleheaded madcaps in our district. Again I say it was not stupidity--most of these madcaps are rather clever and shrewd--but precisesly muddleheadedness, even a special, national form of it."

The edition

"At the same time, he was all his life one of the most senseless, fantastical fellows in the whole district. I repeat, it was not stupidity--the majority of these fantastical fellows are shrewd and intelligent enough--but just senselessness, and a peculiar national form of it."

If someone knows who translated this, it would be a nice bit of information.
